National Day of Mourning

National Day of Mourning

On the National Day of Mourning we commemorate the victims of war and violent regimes. This reminds people of the cruelty of war and calls for peace and reconciliation. Many memorial and wreath-laying ceremonies take place on that day.
Each year in November there is also held a collection by the "Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge". The money collected is spent on the care of the war victims' graves in Germany and in other countries.
