Repentance and Prayer Day

Repentance and Prayer Day

The Repentance and Prayer Day is an evangelical holiday. It is meant to be a day for repentance and reflection. In 1892 the day was fixed on Wednesday before "Totensonntag". On this day services are celebrated in evangelical churches.

Until 1995 the Repentance and Prayer Day was a national holiday, but then it was abolished as a work free day - except in Saxony - to push trough political reforms in the health sector. Any other holiday could have been sacrificed for these reforms, but it is according to the political trend in Germany to take a church holiday.
