Repentance and Prayer Day![]()
The Repentance and Prayer Day is an evangelical holiday. It is meant to be a day for repentance and reflection. In 1892 the day was fixed on Wednesday before "Totensonntag". On this day services are celebrated in evangelical churches. ![]()
Until 1995 the Repentance and Prayer Day was a national holiday, but then it was abolished as a work free day - except in Saxony - to push trough political reforms in the health sector. Any other holiday could have been sacrificed for these reforms, but it is according to the political trend in Germany to take a church holiday. ![]()
